Leading slab manufacturers recommend roller compactors to avoid damage. The process is a gentle compression of slabs/pavers into the bedding course. Rollers dampen compaction amplitude and consolidate bedding sand or chip through higher frequency vibration. This prevents the slabs from shifting and edges from chipping. The pavement is also protected from scratches caused by scraping joint sand across the surface.
